Support towards saving Elliot Bay from development.
The Ipipiri Trust will preserve the historical and cultural Māori heritage of the area, protect the endangered birdlife and centuries old native forest, and has a vision of developing a walking track to connect with other tracks in the area to become one of Aotearoa/New Zealand’s Great Walks.
The purchase also means public access to the surf beach and Elliot Bay campground will be maintained. It wants this taonga, this treasure, in the Bay of Islands to be preserved for future generations of all New Zealanders.
Alterno believes that protecting this land for all New Zealanders is vital and was pleased to provide a grant towards the purchase of the land.
